A group of 18 from our church and our CDC staff joined 65,000 in Atlanta for Passion 2020. Here’s a summary of their experience:
Lindsey Aylor When I first decided to go to Passion I had zero expectations. I had never heard of it. Witnessing what I can honestly say is one of the most profound experiences of faith I have ever seen; I feel like I have truly grown closer to God. To experience worship on such a grand level, and to be in the presence of the Holy Spirit was something that I will never forget. To be able to develop relationships with people from our church and to be able to bring those connections and joy for the Lord back to CBC is something I am looking forward to being a part of.
McKayla Timberlake I am so grateful for the experience to attend passion, it opened my eyes and really allowed me to open up my heart. The first night at Passion, i had so many emotions going through my body. While we were waiting for the gates to open I felt very anxious and fearful (due to so much violence directed at churches). Once we got inside the stadium and the songs started I felt the fear and anxiety melt away. I felt a strong connection with the songs of worship.
Dave Mullins – Absolutely awesome! Sixty-five thousand 18-25 year old Christians gathered to worship. Most meaningful and endearing to me, of those 65,000, I could call fifteen by name.
Jason Ford – The experience I obtained through the Passion Conference was incredible. It was truly an experience to witness 65,000 people in a stadium all worshiping our lord Jesus. At this conference I understood the importance of praise and how its a reflection of our love for God through the grace he bestows upon our lives. I realized what I have been blessed with and know now that I cannot live life without Jesus first in my life. I am immensely thankful for this opportunity I was provided and will without a doubt be attending next year!
Nicole Ways – One of the biggest take-aways from Passion for me personally was the reminder that people who are convinced in the power of the gospel convince other people of that same power. My faith was encouraged by the speakers and worship leaders at the conference, but the strongest impact came from being around thousands of believers who were convinced enough in the power and victory of Christ to proclaim the message of the gospel through our worship together. Seeing other people who are fully convinced of this power strengthened my own faith.
Stacey Appelt – Passion taught me that we don’t need to minimize or hide our love for God, we can be loud and excited about it. Growing up in a small town I was always taught to be respectful and quiet but Passion undid all of that and taught me that I can share my love for Jesus as loud as I can while still being respectful.
Susanne Dorsey – Count your blessings and name them one by one, count your blessings and see what God has done! CBC was blessed to have 16 young adults in attendance at the PASSION 2020 Conference in Atlanta GA. I was fortunate enough to join these young people, AND I am better for it! My heart was encouraged by spending NYE with 65K people who were enthusiastically praying and praising in the new year and new decade. I was also thoroughly surprised to see that these young adults are excited and in touch with speakers like Ravi Zacharias and John Piper…those names were “IN” back when I was at VA Tech. We may be a little suspect with “those millennials”, lol — but I have no doubt about the Mighty God whom they too desire to serve!
Augusta Bailey – My experience at Passion was amazing. There isn’t one good adjective to describe it all. It was wondrous, breathtaking, life-changing, spectacular, eye-opening, and something I will never forget as I get older. I had an unbelievable experience with my peers. Seeing a stadium filled with 65,000 strangers aged 18-25 and knowing that we were all there for the same one reason, that is something that is truly indescribable. It is something that you just have to experience for yourself. Worshiping with everyone in the entire stadium was my favorite part. Everyone who spoke delivered messages that were thought provoking and encouraging. I left Passion very hopeful and encouraged to make this year (2020) a year dedicated to change and turning pages and most importantly dedicating more of my time to the Lord and His word.
Timothy Leake – My passion Experience. I’ve never Really got to Travel as far as Atlanta, just states around Virginia , but now to has went on and to have seen such a life Changing Event, that was fun. “Lots of energy and Enthusiasm Projecting from the concert and Crowd”. They really do Drive the Sound, I could feel the Vibration!
CJ McKnight – Passion 2020 was definitely the best way I’ve ever rang in the new year. Spending it in worship felt like how a change in decade was meant to be spent. The speakers were amazing and left a lasting impact on me, showing me how I truly want to live my life!
Winston Bender – I wasn’t sure what to expect leading up to Passion and the experience of over 60,000 young people worshipping together. That’s exactly what it was though, all of us together lifting prayer and praise to our Lord in one voice. I was also amazed at how the same stadium roaring with praise would be silent while the speakers taught us from the Word. My biggest takeaway from the event was the idea of living your 20’s in such a way that you won’t be disappointed in your 30’s.
Allie Carlton – This year at Passion was so cool. I’ve never seen 65,000 people all my age coming together in worship. One of the most amazing experiences I’ve even seen and something I won’t soon forget. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to attend and I can’t wait for next year.
Dan Strang – A couple of speakers talked about “there is a reason you came to Passion,” for me I was 26 (outside of the age range) and it really meant I was there for a reason. Over the last few years I’ve been walking away from God, kind of like Simon Peter in John 21 that Sadie Robertson talked about. God found Simon Peter just like He found me – He is trying to turn pages in my life, and I just have to let Him.
Quinn Bates – Passion 2020 was such a unique experience. Being able to be around 65,000 people, my age, all worshipping together was unbelievable. Everything about the event was so inspirational from the music, the speakers, to overall feeling of everyone praying together. It was truly an experience I will never forget.
Tyler Beebe – Passion helped me with my anxiety issue that I’ve had since I was in middle school. It also helped me to look at the good in everything and trying to help others in any way I can. I’m definitely interested in going this coming year.
Frances Carlton – Passion was an absolute amazing experience. It was amazing to be worshipping with 65,000 people that are my age. In a world filled with so much negativity Passion reminded me that there is a generation out there who could turn that negativity into positivity.
Morgan Anderson -I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to attend the Passion 2020 Conference. There were so many extraordinary people there praising and worshiping together. I took away many valuable lessons about myself, but I also learned more about Christ and His love for us all. I have been enriched with the concept that God is always in control. I never have to worry what my “Plan B” is, for He has a purpose for me.
Dan Carlton – An incredible experience with 65,000 people bringing in the New Year. I will not forget that moment. I would have never dreamed that a young adult ministry would emerge at CBC but here we are. Looking forward to what’s next.
This week over 60,000 college students lifted a Roar of praise for the name of Jesus. God is writing a new narrative, turning defeat to victory and bringing the dead to life. Let’s define our decade with lives that will echo into eternity. #DefineYourDecade #Passion2020
