Culpeper Baptist Church and Antioch Baptist Church announced today that as part of CBC’s 250th Anniversary Celebration, they will celebrate Homecoming at the historic Davis Street church.  We are excited to announce this special Homecoming Event that celebrates our shared history and looks forward to our future. This event marks a significant occasion, because it is the first time the two congregations have united at the historic Davis Street Church since the end of the Civil War!

Our connection dates to the founding of Mt. Poney Church in 1774.  At that time, most of the attendees were enslaved individuals. In the early 1830s, Mt. Poney moved to the Town of Culpeper and established a church at the corner of Davis and East Streets, renaming it Culpeper Baptist. In 1859, “The African Church” separated from Culpeper Baptist, leading to the founding of Antioch Baptist Church in 1865.

The Homecoming Event will feature stories from our past and present, alongside a challenge for our future. We are grateful to the Free Gospel Church of Christ for generously hosting us in the building they have occupied since the early 1980s.

Antioch Baptist and Culpeper Baptist have shared the same block on West Street since Culpeper Baptist moved there in 1955, and we continue to collaborate on services and community projects. We look forward to celebrating with you and honoring our rich history together.

Please Note: The sanctuary is located on the 2nd floor, and there is no ADA access available.  There are limited restrooms.  Park in the town parking lots behind Davis Street.  The service will be 45 minutes.
